Recap of the First Quarter Board of Trustees Meeting
Recap of the First Quarter Board of Trustees Meeting
The Tennessee Medical Association’s (TMA) Board of Trustees met in Nashville on Jan. 10 for its first meaning of 2026. This meeting customarily focuses on preparation for the forthcoming legislative session and approval of the association operating budget for the year. In addition to these items, the Board acted on the following:
- Discussed needed action to communicate with TennCare officials about the misalignment of performance incentive payments to pediatricians on vaccines in light of federal changes to vaccine guidelines.
- Extended the timeline for the Senior Physician Section (SPS) to recruit members to participate. To activate the section, the SPS needs 100 members to participate. As of the meeting, only 65 members have supported the establishment of the section. The Board will revisit the establishment of the SPS in October.
- Reviewed the launch of the “Know More, No More” campaign, a course designed to provide the state-required opioid prescribing education curriculum. The Board was encouraged by progress to date, noting that over 3,000 participants have already registered for the class.
- Welcomed Mr. Todd McKee, JD, as its new outside legal counsel. Mr McKee works in Nashville and advises a number of non-profit organizations and has worked with Meharry Medical College during his career.
- Approved the subject matter areas for the Issues Forum during this year’s Annual Meeting, scheduled for May 1-2 in Franklin. The focused topics will be ‘AI in Medicine’ and ‘Payment of Healthcare.’
- Accepted the Financial Committee report, which boasted a 13.4% portfolio return for the reserve account (currently $5.1 million) in 2025. The board gave final approval for a balanced 2026 operating budget of $3.4 million.
The next meeting of the TMA Board of Trustees will be on Friday, May 1, 2026, at the Marriott Cool Springs in Franklin TN, immediately preceding the TMA Annual Meeting. Reach out to Amy Campoli at amy.campoli@tnmed.org with questions.
